Debt is Bad

Always remember this, debt is bad ……there is no such thing as good debt. Many of us want all the luxuries , nice house, new car all the latest gadgets but guess what suppose you lose your job and cannot get one for a few months what then ? Do you have a cash reserve? Can you afford to pay off your bills? I just had something unexpected happen and lucky enough I had $1000 in cash to cover the cost.

Important: Create a cash reserve

Pay off credit cards

Dont lease a car

My New Imac

Well it came ,it came in a big heavy box and it is beautiful. As I have said before I have never used a mac I have been a linux user for the past 10 years. At first I had to find applications that would help me rip my entire dvd collection and tag all my music , I also have apple tv so I had to configure that. With apple tv we are still waiting for the take 2 update . My first impressions of Apple products are that they brand it , they brand everything they make as super cool. Whereas with linux it is a do it yourselfers dream . Apple make their products sleek and sexy . I havent tried all the applications yet I need to be able to set up apple tv’s and set customers up with gtd at their home and offices. The company that is giving me the work is a firm that organizes people both at work and in their home. The customer base is mainly one of $150,000 a year or more they hire the company to come in and set up their home office , create a gtd system and provide follow thru.

I am in the begining phase  of the franchise and believe it or not they have over 50,000 customers to date in the USA and Canada. I guess that we all want to have something like this .I have to get my own house in order , so before I can go out to customers i will have to learn all the applications that the company recommend .

IMac vs Linux

I just purchased an IMac from the Apple store. For those that know me I have been faithfully using Linux for the past ten years, so have my children . There is one main reason I got this and that is because I am at the begining stage of starting a new business [ I cannot say what yet] and it will involve video editing as well as financial .

For the past six months I have tried every video editing program available under Linux , Cinlerra ,Jahshaka etc etc My linux box is running a intel duel core at 3ghz , I have 8 gigs of ram , so it is not for a lack of firepower it is the lack of applications.

Apple Prices: Apple computers and gadgets look great but prices are out of this world , I wanted to have 4 gigs of ram that would have cost an extra $850 ,so I went to the spec sheet and found the ram and off to tigerdirect

I purchased two 2 gig memory sticks for $149.00 plus tax I checked the website at apple and there is deeply buried directions as to how to add memory modules.

Open Source:mac osx is built on a basis of Free bsd off the original Next platform for years they have had a project called Darwin that allowed for the development of free and open sourced applications for OSX , recently however apple abandoned that. There are many open sourced applications available for osx. Many of these programs have been available for the linux platform for years so I should feel at home.

I have also ordered the apple tv and I am in the middle of building a hackintosh that will act as a multimedia server and in the coming weeks I will be posting about setting up multiple apple tv’s and streaming media throughout the ouse from a hackintosh server.

Dreams and Goals and Achieving Both

I think that I have a great understanding of life. I have known sorrow following the death of loved ones ,I have known unbelievable joy at the birth of loved ones [ my 4 children] I have known defeat and victory, success and failure. Many of us have dreams we may lie awake at night and get an idea into our head and for that period of time we actually plan it out think it thru and then we wake up! So people like Dave Allen, Tony Robbins, Les Hewitt et all write books and develop systems that help those of us who want to actually go from dreaming to doing.

Goals.

A goal is nothing more than you saying to yourself I want this, it means nothing in the world unless you are willing to take the next step and that step is to plan.

Planning.

When designing a plan of action I steal ideas from several of the guru’s out there , I get paper lots of it and I rough draft ideas , alist of things I must do and that must happen before the Goal becomes a reality. For instance I want to get 1 million dollars in one year . Well thats nice but if I am $ 500,000 in debt now I need to figure out how to pay off that first before I even start a plan to make 1 million dollars.

In other words when designing a plan put everything on the table you will find that some actions will be required before your actual plan to achieve your goal can be designed , in fact you will have to make several mini goals .

Details

The saying that the devil is in the details is true, do not overlook the small stuff. When you commit to a goal be totally honest with yourself write down all the what if and what for arguments. Jot ideas down put reminders all over the place ,force yourself to vision the goal everyday and everywhere.

What I do is exactly this I can set a mini goal like clean the garage….Simple right? However when you live in a chaotic house like I do with 4 kids ranging in age from 4 up to 14 and various commitments like basketball and Irish step dancing and school, homework and all that fun stuff The garage can easily become I will get to it one day soon. Here is what I did I got yellow stickies and wrote on them ‘Did You Clean The Garage Today’, I put one on the Bathroom wall , in my car on the dashboard ,by the Kitchen sink and on my headboard . I even put them on my workdesk and in my moleskin. So finally one day at work during lunch I drew up a Goal ……I want a clean Garage next came the plan .

I need a box of heavy black construction bags.

I need to close my eyes and toss everything I absolutely don’t need .If I needed it so bad why has it been in the Garage for the past 2 years.

I set the time I would start , Tonight at 5 pm when I ate supper I would recruit son number 1 and bribe him with a $20 bill .

24 bags later it still wasn’t complete but God it felt good to be able to walk from one side to the other without requiring an emergency room visit.

Completing the task.

There is nothing better than completing your final step and achieving your goal. Why would cleaning a garage be a goal? Quite simply I initially set my goals low.And as I achieved each goal I made the next one a little bit bigger. I achieved the joy of being debt free .I achieved the goal of getting my house valued at almost 1 million dollars simply by doing a ton of small projects on the house that any real estate person will gladly tell you adds saleability to the property.I have the neatest Garage in New Jersey , My home office and computer desktop is a fine tuned masterpiece now.

Conclusion

Dreaming is nice but a complete waste of time unless you are willing to actually try to achieve them. You have to want something so bad that you will do anything [legal of course] to achieve it.
